Hooray for Mate!

It's been a while since I've posted so I guess I'll have to sum up a lot in this one. Here are some highlights from my life over the past 3 weeks.

1. I liberated a rottweiler

Yes, it's true. Too make a long story short I adopted my sister-in-laws dog while she was out of town. Her ex-husband was supposed to be taking care of it while she was gone, but instead he just locked it up in a garage and spent the entire time at his brothers apt getting high on crystal meth (that's an entirely different story). If you live in Louisville you know that the past couple weeks have been REALLY cold. Because of this I took it upon my self to take the dog home with me until my sister in law got back. "Mia" was such a sweet dog too - a one of kind rottweiler. She is very well trained makes you fell protected. Stella grew very attached to her and I was really bummed out to give her back. Sometime in the next couple years I plan on getting another dog.

2. An old friend of mine past away

My friend Aaron Marrs was an inspiring filmmaker and was working on a crab fishing boat to earn money for a film he was working on about the commercial fishing industry in Alaska. He was working on the boat "Big Valley" in the Bering Sea when the winds came and seas rose to nearly 20-feet, capsizing the ship. There were six crewmen onboard. Three were rescued, but only one of them survived. The other three, including Aaron, the Captain, and one other, were officially declared by the U.S. Coast Guard Lost At Sea after 4 days of searching more than 1,700 square miles unsuccessfully. You can read more about Aaron here.

3. I stopped drinking coffee

I am now a diehard hot tea drinker. Coffee at times was to acidic for me and the health benefits for hot tea outweigh coffee by a landslide. I've been drinking a lot of mate, black tea and green tea. My favorites so far are Highland Coffee's "Moulin Rouge", PG Tips and Guayaki's Yerba Mate.

Wow, you liberated a rottweiler. What did I ever do?

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. Actually, I had already heard about the accident, so more to the point I'm sorry for your loss.

No coffee T-Bone? Woah! How do I live nextdoor to you for 40 hours a week and not notice this stuff?

I read about Aaron too ... so sad. Please tell us more about him and how you knew him.

And more about puppy love too.

I worked at the Heine for almost a year...I can agree with the porblems that coffee can cause with the stomach. I'm an infrequent coffee drinker, at best.

I am sorry to hear of Aaron's loss as well. I am a Kentuckian (Shepherdsville) and a filmmaker also and our community isn't that big. It is a devastating loss.

By the way, I had reflux and I traced it back to coffee too! Solved it though with a Toddy Brewer. You pour a pound of coffee into it, add nine cups of water and after 12 hours you get nine cups of almost acid free and ungodly smooth concentrate. Just go to froogle.com and put in toddy brewer, they are about 35.00.

Now I can drink the stuff til I'm rattled silly. The SOuth Americans came up with it.
